Mount Haguro Saikan shrine stay (Yamagata)
This shukubo is located alongside the approach near the mountain top of Mount Haguro. It was originally called Kezouin, but was rebuilt in 1697. I was really happy to be able to stay at Saikan, which is located just beside the promenade. As old as it was, the building was well maintained with a beautiful garden. -
Dewa
Kanbayashi-Katsukane shrine stay (Yamagata)
This shukubo is located right next to the entrance of the approach to Mount Haguro, so enjoys the best location among the temple lodgings on Mount Haguro. The building is a stately private house with a thatched roof. I was welcomed warmly in the home-like atmosphere. -

Located in the mountains, it has a large hall and training rooms, making it an ideal venue for brass band training camps, which tend to produce loud noises. Meal times are dinner at 6pm and breakfast at 8am. Curfew is 11pm. -

Mount Yudono Sanrojo shrine stay (Yamagata)
This lodging is a shukubo on Mount Yudono, which is located in the deepest part of Dewasanzan (Mount Haguro, Mount Gassan and Mount Yudono) and considered to be a sacred place. Because Yudonosan Shrine does not have a main hall, the sanrosho office seems to serve as the prayer hall and part of the shrine office. -

Shogyoji is a small temple stay located on the hillside above Otaru. The guest rooms are spacious Japanese-style rooms with 10 tatami mats and an area of about 5 tatami mats with wooden flooring. The next morning, I participated in the temple experience. I lit a candle, offered rice to the Buddha, and chanted a sutra. -

This is a temple stay located in the town of Noboribetsu Onsen, a famous hot spring resort in Hokkaido. Guest rooms are Japanese-style and very comfortable. I was able to start my morning off in a good mood while listening to the priest chanting Buddhist prayers and sutras in the background. -
