Founded in 1202, this shrine is dedicated to Ebisu, a deity associated with business prosperity.
The Boiling Water Ritual will take place on November 16th, starting at 2:00 PM.
When I visited the shrine, a Shinto ritual was initially taking place inside the main hall. After the Shinto prayers were recited, a dance was performed by a shrine maiden as an offering.
After that, shortly past 2:30 PM, a Shinto priest appeared and performed a purification ritual for the worshippers.
Afterwards, a fire was lit, and the ritual burning ceremony was performed. Items such as rice, salt, sake, and wooden pieces bearing the wishes of worshippers were placed into the fire.
And finally, the boiling water ritual took place. First, the Shinto priest rang a bell, and the area was purified.
After that, she dipped a bundle of sakaki branches into boiling water and vigorously splashed the water around her.
I was standing in the direction the hot water was spraying, so it was very hot. However, I felt that I received many blessings in return.
After the Shinto ritual concluded, roasted mandarins were distributed for free.
It was sweet and very delicious.
