About Tokurinan temple
This temple was founded in 1550. It was located a short walk from Yamashina Station. The temple grounds faced the road and were not particularly large.
The hall was hexagonal – a somewhat unusual shape.
A statue of Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha), standing about 3 meters (9.84 ft) tall, was enshrined inside the hall. This is one of the six statues created by Ono no Takamura in 852. He is a figure surrounded by many legends, said to have served as an assistant to Enma (Yama) – the King of Hell – in the afterlife.
