Shukubo (temple stay)
This shukubo is located in the precinct of Kosho-ji temple next to Nishihongan-ji temple. It is close to Kyoto station and is convenient for sightseeing. You will be welcomed even if you are traveling alone.
I paid the accommodation fee when I checked-in. When I made the reservation, I asked for “a cheap room for a one night stay with breakfast.” They replied, “You can stay in the only room on the third floor which is rather small.”
It was a Japanese-style room 4 tatami mats in size next to the large hall. It was scary even going to the rest room. There is a TV but I had to bring my own pajamas, towels and a toothbrush. The bath is made of Japanese cypress and is shared.
The breakfast (cooked rice, miso soup and pickles only) was 400 yen. It was not especially shojin cuisine. The morning service was conducted by two priests and five believers only. Although it is much smaller than the service conducted in Nishi-Honganji located next to it, it was a good experience.
