A group of valuable buildings
This temple was founded in 899. Originally, it was a Shingon-sect temple named Gokurakuji, but it later converted to the Nichiren sect and was renamed Hotoji.
This temple is usually very quiet, but the grounds contain a valuable temple hall. The main hall, built in 1608, is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
The Tahoto Pagoda standing right next to it is also an Important Cultural Property.
The smaller gate shown in the photo at the top is also an Important Cultural Property.
Mount Shichimen
Behind the main hall, there is a path leading up to Mount Shichimen.
After climbing for about ten minutes, you will find a hall dedicated to Shichimen Daimyojin. This deity is said to be a goddess who protects the Lotus Sutra.
It is a secluded spot where you can feel a deep sense of sanctity, so I highly recommend it.
