Introduction to Sudo-jinja shrine
This shrine is dedicated to Prince Sawara, a son of Emperor Konin. He was arrested for his involvement in the assassination of Fujiwara no Tanetsugu and later died.
Afterward, an epidemic broke out in Kyoto, and it came to be said that it was his curse. Therefore, this shrine was established in this place to appease his spirit.
In Japan, it is believed that by respectfully enshrining fearsome vengeful spirits, one can receive their great power.
