Shukubo (shrine stay)

Ikutabo is a shukubo run by the son of the Shinto priest and his kind mother. It is more like a private inn. As it is located closer to the starting point for a climb than many other shukubo lodgings lining up along the street, it is convenient for worshiping.

They serve shojin cuisine, but you can order beer as well. When I stayed there, they served a soup of Nemagari bamboo, cooked mountain plants (fuki, udo, fiddlehead ferns, etc.), grilled ayu (sweetfish) with salt, pickles and fruit. They served a slice of melon produced in the local sand dunes along the Japan Sea.

The room is sufficiently large and measures eight tatami mats in size, and it had a washbasin and a lavatory. A yukata robe, a tea pot and cups, a towel and a toothbrush are provided. Ikutabo is an inn with good ventilation. I was relaxed and had a good stay.

You can take a bath in the hot spring 24 hours a day. The water is simple chalybeate water. I enjoyed its warm and soft feel.
