About Ooharano shrine
This shrine originated in 784, when the deity of Kasuga Taisha in Nara was enshrined here. In 850, Emperor Montoku constructed a magnificent shrine complex.
It is known for having been a place of worship for Murasaki Shikibu, the author of “The Tale of Genji” – a work that had a profound influence on Japanese literature.
In the spacious shrine precincts, an approach path extends straight from the torii gate at the entrance, with Koisawa Pond located on the right.
The vermilion-lacquered main hall at the rear follows the same architectural style as Kasuga Taisha, featuring four shrine buildings arranged side by side.
