Introduction to Taizoin temple

Taizoin is a sub-temple of Myoshinji Temple that was built in 1404.

After paying the admission fee and entering the temple grounds, you will find the main hall, an important cultural property.

If you go further, you will come across a dry landscape garden and a strolling pond garden. Each of these Japanese gardens is incredibly beautiful, so we recommend taking your time to enjoy them.

There are also places where you can enjoy matcha tea. It comes with Japanese sweets and is delicious.

This temple is also home to the national treasure “Hyonenzu (Gourd and Sweetfish).” This ink painting is based on the Zen question, “How do you catch a catfish with a gourd?” The original is on loan to the Kyoto National Museum, and a replica is on display here.

There are also catfish roof tiles in the temple grounds.
