Introduction to Yogenin temple

Yogenin Temple was built in 1594 by Yodo-dono, a concubine of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to commemorate her father.
This temple is famous for its blood-stained ceiling. This is a ceiling panel made from floorboards stained with blood, which were used as a memorial for Torii Mototada and several hundred of his subordinates who committed suicide when Fushimi Castle fell.
It’s a very striking sight, with the shapes of hands and feet clearly visible.
The main hall, the Goma hall, the bell tower, and the middle gate are designated as important cultural properties. In addition, the sliding screen paintings and cedar door paintings created by Tawaraya Sotatsu have also been designated as important cultural properties.
