Introduction to Rozanji temple

This temple was founded in 938 by Ryogen. It is famous as the place where The Tale of Genji, written in the early 11th century, was written, a work that had a great influence on Japanese literature.
The author, Murasaki Shikibu, had her residence in this area.

In front of the main hall is the Genji Garden, which is inspired by this work.

The bellflower blossoms, which bloom from the end of June to the beginning of September, are also a local specialty.
