Shukubo (temple stay)
Hoonji Temple was founded in 1721. Take a bus for about 20 minutes from Haibara Station, get off at the Ouda bus stop, and then walk for about 10 minutes to reach the temple.
Upon entering the temple grounds, the entrance to the shukubo was directly ahead, and the main hall was on the left.
There are three guest rooms. I stayed in the 8 tatami Japanese-style room at the very front. It is an old building, but it has a nice atmosphere and I was able to stay there comfortably.
The shower room and toilet were shared.
There was also a hot spring about a 15 minute walk away. Uda City has long been known for its medicinal herbs. The hot spring contains medicinal herbs and it felt really good.
Morning services were held in the main hall from 7am. Chanting the sutras together with the head priest left me feeling refreshed.
The head priest of Hoonji Temple and his wife were very friendly and I had a very enjoyable time there.
