Shukubo (temple stay)
Kouninji Temple was founded between the end of the 8th century and the beginning of the 9th century.
There are very few buses going to Kouninji Temple. It takes about 60 minutes on foot from Obitoke Station.
I arrived at the nearest bus stop, but it was dark and I couldn’t find the temple. I called Kouninji Temple and they came to pick me up at the bus stop.
Dinner was delivered to my room. There was tempura, boiled vegetables, clear soup with yuba and chrysanthemum, vegetables seasoned in vinegar, spinach salad, and pickles. There was a lot of variety and it was very delicious.
I heard that the bath is heated with firewood. It was a cold day, but it warmed my body very well.
The next day, there was a 30-minute service in the hall. The Heart Sutra was chanted. After work, I had breakfast in my room.
