Introduction to Asukadera Temple
Asukadera Temple was built in 596 and is Japan’s first Buddhist temple. The principal image of the temple, a seated Sakyamuni statue, is the oldest Buddhist statue in Japan. It is called the Asuka Great Buddha.
Shukubo (temple stay)
Shutokubo is a 5-minute walk from Asukadera Temple. This shukubo is exclusively for groups and can accommodate 10 or more people.
The room we stayed in was a Japanese-style room measuring 8 tatami mats + 6 tatami mats. There was a TV and air conditioning. Yukata, towels and toothbrushes were provided.
There was an exhibition of koto (traditional Japanese harp) and costumes in the lobby.
The food was specially prepared for us in the form of ancient cuisine. There was red rice and ancient cheese.
The monk took good care of us and we had a great time.
