About Yoshimine-dera temple

This temple was founded in 1029. It flourished under the reverence of successive emperors, but most of its halls were destroyed by fire during the Onin War (1467-1477). Later, in the second half of the 17th century, Keishoin – the birth mother of the fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi – revitalized the site by rebuilding many of its halls.

The spacious temple grounds are home to numerous valuable structures, including a Tahoto pagoda designated as an Important Cultural Property.

From mid-June to early July, approximately 8,000 hydrangea plants bloom in vibrant colors. Over 100 cherry trees have been planted, and they bloom in succession over the course of a month in April.
