About Takanawa shrine
This shrine was founded around 1492ｰ1501. The enshrined deities are Inari, Hachiman, and Sarutahiko-no-kami.
To the left of the main hall, there is a shrine dedicated to Prince Shotoku. He is the figure who spread the spirit of harmony in Japan and has long been revered by many.
The stone gate within the shrine precincts features carvings depicting the slaying of a tiger and a giant serpent. This is based on a Chinese historical anecdote about Zhou Chu, who slew a creature that was terrorizing his village, only to discover that he himself was also feared.
