Introduction to Syorinji temple

It is a sub-temple of Tofuku-ji Temple, founded in 1550. The statue of Vaisravana enshrined here was made during the Heian period (794-1185) and is believed to bring good fortune in wealth and victory in battle. It is usually closed to the public, but it can be viewed only during the New Year, April, and from mid-November to early December.

Zazen (Zen Meditation)

Zen meditation sessions are available. Beginners are welcome to participate. They also offer packages that combine tea ceremonies and yoga.
Other sights to see within the temple grounds
The water basin for purification is always beautifully decorated with flowers.

The banners on the temple grounds are decorated with a centipede symbol. Vaisravana has centipedes as his attendants.
Centipedes are said to represent victory because they only move forward. It is also said that because it has many legs, it brings good fortune in terms of money.

In front of the main hall, there are statues of a tiger and Jizo (a Buddhist deity). The tiger is considered a messenger of Vaisravana.

There’s also a catfish statue. Catfish are said to calm earthquakes.
