Kinkakuji is a temple famous for its Golden Pavilion, which is covered in genuine gold leaf. You can enjoy a variety of experiences within the temple grounds.
See the Golden Pavilion

First and foremost, let’s take a good, close look at the Golden Pavilion.
You can view the Golden Pavilion not only from the front but also from the side and back. Let’s also take a look at the phoenix perched on the roof.
The photos are included in the article below, so please take a look.

Coin Toss That Grants Wishes

After passing the Golden Pavilion, there is a spot where a bowl has been placed in front of a stone Buddha statue. It is said that if you toss a coin into this bowl, your wish will come true.
A chair for a noble

There is a stone chair near Sekka-tei (an old tea house). This is a seat where nobles once sat; it was relocated by the Muromachi Shogunate.
It is now a popular photo spot where anyone can sit.
Matcha and Japanese Sweets

Near the exit of the temple grounds, there is a place where you can enjoy matcha and Japanese sweets. It’s very cheap at 500 yen for the set.
The Japanese sweets is an original creation of Kinkakuji and is topped with gold leaf.
Single-Character Sutra Copying

A simplified sutra-copying activity is available, where each person writes one character of the Heart Sutra. Using a brush pen, trace over the model kanji characters.
Then, write your wish and name at the bottom to complete it.
You can try it out for 100 yen.
