History
This is a very serene place with a garden that is 3,300 square meters in size. It was the precinct of Jyochi-in that became the temporary residence for Priest Kobo when he climbed Mount Koya for the first time. Also, Priest Kogyo climbed Mount Koya 300 years after the death of Priest Kobo.
As he untied his wet straw sandals called waraji as Priest Kobo did, this temple is called the Temple of Wet Waraji Sandals (of the two great priests).
Shukubo (temple stay)
The room was large, new and clean and the meals were also very tasty. It was cold in the morning and in the evening, but I was able to keep myself warm thanks to the kotatsu heater (a table with a heater beneath). The futon mattress and duvet, as well as the futon for the kotatsu heater were also stuffed with down, which were soft and warm.
The lodging was as nice as a high class Japanese style inn. What was different was that the staff will come to your room to clear up your futon at 6:00 in the morning.
Although the building of Jochi-in was nearly new in general, the main hall hasn`t changed. While many Buddha statues were watching, I participated in the morning service in a solemn atmosphere. I hope to visit this temple again.
