Saikyoji Temple is the head temple of the Tendai Shinsei sect. It is said to have been founded by Prince Shotoku (574-622), who spread Buddhism in Japan.
The main hall and guest hall are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. There is also a garden created by Kobori Enshu (1579-1647), who is known as a master landscape gardener.
