Shukubo (temple stay)
Shogyoji is a small temple stay located on the hillside above Otaru. When you enter the temple through the entrance, the main hall is right in front of you.
There are guest rooms on the second floor. The guest rooms are spacious Japanese-style rooms with 10 tatami mats and an area of about 5 tatami mats with wooden flooring. There is a refrigerator and a microwave.
There is also a toilet, washing machine, sink and shower room.
Although it is a little far away, you can see the ocean from the rooms.
Morning service
The next morning, I participated in the temple experience. I lit a candle, offered rice to the Buddha, and chanted a sutra.
I also listened to a sermon by the head priest. He spoke about Amitabha.
Surrounding area information
Otaru is a famous tourist destination in Hokkaido. There are many historical buildings and beautiful streetscapes.
There are many restaurants, but my recommendation is the seafood bowl. It was topped with plenty of salmon roe and salmon.
