Noboribetsu Onsen hot springs
Syokoin Temple was founded in 1895. This is a temple located in the town of Noboribetsu Onsen, a famous hot spring resort in Hokkaido. Guests can enjoy the hot springs.
The hot spring is small, but the water is straight from the source. The hot spring water is filled with floating mineral deposits, warming your body. After getting out of the bath, your skin feels smoother. There is also a plaque of Avalokitesvara.
Shukubo (temple stay)
Guest rooms are Japanese-style and very comfortable. Towels, bath towels and yukata robes are provided. There was also a shared refrigerator, microwave and washing machine.
There were cats in the temple. They were very friendly.
Morning service
I attended the morning service. I was able to start my morning off in a good mood while listening to the priest chanting Buddhist prayers and sutras in the background.
Syokoin Temple houses a Buddha statue carved by Enku(1632-1695). He is a famous monk in Japan who carved 120,000 Buddhist statues in his lifetime.
Surrounding area information
There are many tourist attractions nearby, including volcanic eruption sites and a bear ranch.
There are also convenience stores and restaurants where you can get a meal. The milk ramen I had at a restaurant called Isekura was delicious.
