Shukubo (temple stay)

Daitaiji Temple was founded 1,200 years ago. It is said that it began when Saicho carved and enshrined a Bhaisajyaguru statue in order to seal away a giant snake that was tormenting people.
There are many valuable Buddhist statues, including some that have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.
There is a shukubo within the temple grounds. The guest rooms include a detached building with a capacity of 2 people and a guest hall with a capacity of 8 people.
There are various temple experiences available, such as Zen meditation, copying sutras, eating rice porridge in the morning, morning services, a Buddha statue viewing tour, a riverside sauna, and evening bell ringing.
The chief priest’s story

I had the opportunity to hear the chief priest speak at the event. The temple is located on a hill surrounded by rice fields. He said that he built the shukubo to help promote the rural temple.

On another day, I also participated in an online zen meditation session.

He used to be an English teacher, so he is good at speaking English.
