Introduction to Bukkoji temple
This is the head temple of the Shinshu Bukkoji sect. It is said that the temple originated from a hermitage built in Yamashina by Shinran, who had been exiled to Echigo Province (present-day Niigata Prefecture) and returned to Kyoto.
Bukkoji Temple is located just off a small side street, away from the bustling Shijo Karasuma shopping arcade.
Upon entering the temple grounds, the first thing that caught my eye were the two large halls.

The building on the left is the Amida Hall, and the larger building on the right is the Daishi Hall. I was able to go inside each of these places and offer my prayers.

Please note that services are held every morning starting at 7:00 AM, and anyone is welcome to attend.

Cafe on the temple grounds
There was a cafe on the temple grounds, so I had a meal there.

The interior was spacious, and I was able to relax comfortably.

The menu was extensive, offering curry, udon noodles, set meals using Kyoto ingredients, and desserts.
The set I received included seasoned rice, a hearty miso soup, traditional Kyoto vegetables, a tofu dish, and pickles. The meal was delicious, prepared with care and attention to detail, making the most of the natural flavors of the ingredients.
